SPS IPC DRIVES 2014 - DEHN provides safety for automation systems

DEHN at SPS 2014From November 25 to 27, 2014, DEHN, an international expert for surge protection, lightning protection and safety equipment, will showcase its comprehensive portfolio at Europe‘s leading trade fair for electrical automation in Nuremberg (hall 10, booth 321). Based on practical applications, DEHN will present the protection of individual automation components and complete systems, integrated automation solutions as well as the protection of highly complex building and system technology. With its new d.c. surge arrester of type DEHNguard® SE DC, DEHN offers an arrester which protects, for example, d.c drives, control circuits and any kind of battery-operated supply systems in case of lightning effect and surges. DEHN also tests the lightning current withstand capability of installations and systems in its test centre.

Failure of automation systems and thus production capacities entails enormous costs for manufacturing companies. Therefore, high availability is required for both measuring and control systems and power supply systems. However, these systems are highly vulnerable to lightning effects and surges. With its comprehensive portfolio, DEHN offers numerous solutions for protecting automation systems.

The new DEHNguard® DC surge protective device safely protects d.c. systems against lightning effects and surges. The powerful d.c. switching device DCD of the modular DEHNguard® DC type 2 surge arrester is designed in such a way that the protective device is safely disconnected in case of overload, thus preventing d.c. switching arcs and fire damage. Depending on the voltage level, DEHNguard® DC can be used without additional backup fuse in case of direct currents up to 300 A. It is ideally suited for use in safety lighting systems, emergency power supply systems, d.c. systems for direct supply of d.c. drives, control circuits and any kind of battery-operated supply systems.

The DEHN equipotential bonding enclosure of type DPG LSA DPG is a lockable metal enclosure for the installation of wiring and protection components. Available in four different sizes, the lightning current carrying enclosure provides terminals that allow to integrate surge arresters and shields in the equipotential bonding system.

SAK 10 AS V4A is a lightning current carrying shield connection system for anchors bars. As, in the course of time, the cable materials are subject to a yield, this yield is compensated by a slipping spring element. The shield connection can also be isolated from local potential by means of an adequate insulating joint. Moreover, this system can be retrofitted without interrupting the conductor shield.

Over a floor space of 800 m2, the test centre from DEHN provides the latest devices and technologies for testing products, installations and systems with lightning currents. In the new lightning current laboratory, protective functions can now be tested under realistic conditions with lightning currents up to 400 kA (10/350 μs). This powerful test laboratory allows to test lightning protection systems for installations and systems requiring maximum protection and is already used by numerous test institutes and industrial customers.
